The College Preparatory and Leadership Academy, which calls itself The Point, is a public charter school for kindergarten to grade 12 that the state lists as The College Preparatory and Leadership Academy of High Point. The state and federal school directories give its address as 4201 Furniture Ave., Jamestown; the school’s own contact page gives 5700 Riverdale Drive, Jamestown. The campus the federal directory maps is inside High Point city limits in Census Bureau boundary data. Charter schools are public schools run by their own boards, not by Guilford County Schools, so there is no attendance zone. The school’s website says it is open to any student in North Carolina, offers visual and performing arts and dual enrollment with GTCC for rising 11th graders with a 3.0 GPA, and runs bus stops through First Student. Its transportation page says all buses are currently full, with a waiting list.
The school’s contact page lists Michelle Johnson as superintendent of schools and separate school leaders by grade: Titha Bates (preschool to grade 5), Brittany McFadden (grades 6 and 7), Adedeji Adeneye (grade 8) and Tasha Ewell (grades 9 to 12).
How to get in: all North Carolina children are eligible, and if more students apply than the school can take, it holds a lottery, with priority for children of full-time staff and siblings of current students as state law allows, according to its admissions page. Students admitted in the lottery must turn in an enrollment packet by March 31 to keep their seat.
