Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. It honors the men and women who died serving in the U.S. armed forces. In High Point, the place to pay respects is Memorial Park downtown, and the long weekend opens the city’s pool season and brings the Rockers home to Truist Point.

Where to pay respects

The High Point Veterans Memorial stands on a brick plaza, Memorial Park, at North Main Street and East High Avenue downtown. It was dedicated May 30, 2005, and lists the wars in which local veterans served, beginning with World War I, according to UNC’s Commemorative Landscapes of North Carolina. The park also holds a World War I doughboy statue, a World War II honor roll, a Revolutionary War patriots marker and an African American Gold Star plaque.

No 2027 Memorial Day ceremony had been announced as of Oct. 11. We will add the time and place when the city or a veterans group announces one.

In 2026 the city’s collection schedule handled Memorial Day this way:

The city’s notice for that week reads “all collections postponed one day” and lists Tuesday through Friday as collection days; call 336-883-3111 if you are on a Friday route. What is open and closed

• High Point Public Library, 901 N. Main St.: closed on Memorial Day (May 25 in 2026), according to its hours page.
• Guilford County Schools: Monday, May 31, 2027, is a holiday on the 2026-27 traditional calendar. The last day of school is Thursday, June 10.
• Police, fire and 911 run as normal.

Pools open for the season

In 2026 both city pools opened on Saturday, May 23, Memorial Day weekend:

• High Point City Lake Park Aquatic Center, 602 W. Main St., Jamestown: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31, then daily from June 1. A 50-meter pool, lazy river, three slides and splash pad.
• Washington Terrace Pool and Waterslide, 108 Murray St.: noon to 6 p.m. on May 23, 24 and 25 and June 6 and 7, then daily from June 8.

Rockers baseball

The High Point Rockers are home at Truist Point on Saturday and Sunday, May 29-30, 2027, for Memorial Day weekend, according to the team’s 2027 schedule announcement. Game times are announced later.
