Trash pickup is not affected; the city’s next holiday schedule change is for Veterans Day, Nov. 11. See our trash guide and Veterans Day page.

Safety

From Safe Kids Worldwide and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration:

  • Walk on sidewalks or paths. Where there are none, walk facing traffic as far to the left as you can.
  • Cross at corners, using signals and crosswalks.
  • Add reflective tape to costumes and bags, choose light colors, and carry glow sticks or flashlights.
  • Make sure costumes fit, to prevent trips and falls.
  • Eat a light meal before heading out, and check treats at home before anyone eats them. Throw away anything that is not commercially wrapped or looks tampered with.

Halloween is on a weekend this year, so expect more children out after dark and more traffic on residential streets. Drivers should slow down in neighborhoods.
